A red eye out of LAX is not something people typically look forward to, but if you know how to spend the day leading up to your flight, it may be something you actually start to plan on purpose.
The best way to make the most of your day before a red eye out of LAX is with your own personal beach butler from Perry’s Cafe and Beach Rentals in Santa Monica.
I was able to experience the Beach Butler service with Perry’s while on a recent press trip with Visit California and loved it. Instead of wandering aimlessly, trying to kill time before a flight, I was able to squeeze out every last minute of the classic California vibe.
When you book a beach butler with Perry’s, chairs are set up on the beach for you with towels, umbrellas, and tables. Your butler also leaves you with cold water in a cooler, and will deliver sunscreen to you and even lunch. When’s it’s time to leave for your flight, you can leave all the clean up for them.
Not wanting to miss anything happening on Santa Monica Beach, I rented a bike from Perry’s for an hour to explore. At $10 an hour, it’s an absolute bargain and a great way to take in the eclectic and fun beach area. Depending on time and your athletic ability, you can also rent surfboards, boogie boards, wet suits and roller skates. If you’re especially forgetful, you can even purchase swimsuits from Perry’s.
Don’t miss the new “muscle beach” area here. Don’t worry about staring, the people showing off their muscles won’t mind. If you’re up to it, you can even ask to join in. Who knows maybe you’ll kick-start a new career as an acrobat.
Santa Monica Beach is also home to the iconic Santa Monica Pier. If you have time, admission into this area is free and is well worth your time to stroll through.
Finally, if you’re able to stay the night before your departure, don’t miss the fabulous Loews Santa Monica Beach. Check your bags with the bellman before you head to Perry’s for the day, then get cleaned up in the spa before catching your ride to LAX.
If you only have the day to spend, you can find hotels in the area that have day rates using Dayuse.com.
Disclosure: My experience with Perry’s was a gifted experience through Visit California. All opinions expressed are mine.
