I recently had the opportunity to test drive the new 2015 Ford Edge Sport. As Team Captain for the Sears Great Canadian Run, I needed a great vehicle to shuttle runners around during our 125km day, and of course make the trek from Ottawa to Toronto and back. I was a little light-headed when I returned because the features on this SUV made my heart beat a little faster. Here are ten reasons I’m swooning over the 2016 Ford Edge Sport.
Killer Moonroof
Heaven knows I miss my Mustang convertible but when my kids came along, I gave it a gentle kiss goodbye. The next best thing for me has always been a Moonroof. The Ford Edge Sport though has upsized it with the biggest moonroof I’ve ever seen in an SUV. I really have no idea where that glass tucks into but I don’t care because it’s a thing of beauty.
Blind Spot Information System
The Blind Spot Information System, also known as BLIS (very smart Ford) is one of my most favourite features. BLIS tells you when someone is in your blindspot on both sides of the vehicle. While this isn’t meant as a replacement for the good old fashioned shoulder check, it did smartly let me know when it was safe to do a lane change. BLIS indeed.
Driver Alert
I’m not gonna lie. I was tired after our race weekend and a seven hour drive back to Ottawa was not really what I was looking forward to. The Driver Alert system in the new 2015 Ford Edge Sport warned me three times during the day to take a break. Using various inputs including the front camera sensor, it knew when my alertness was falling off and told me to knock it off. Caffeinated chocolate and six cups of tea later I was safely in my driveway and I was happy that the Ford reminded me to take a break.
Active Park Assist
Assistance with parallel parking is so 2012. Now, select Ford models in 2015 offer help when parking perpendicular too. Further evidence that we’re only a hop, skip and a jump from true Jetsons living.
Cameras, Cameras Everywhere
The whole rear view camera has always been a plus in my books, but now the Ford Edge Sport offers a Front View Camera as well. Simply press the camera enable button in any gear but reverse and see what is directly in front of your vehicle. Like, oh I don’t know, say a parking curb. Yup, totally got my car stuck on one once because I forgot it was there.
Heated/Cooling Seats
I was able to try out both of these options over the course of a weekend because…Canada. Honestly, nowhere else will the ability to heat and cool your butt be more appreciated. Worth mentioning; there’s a special spot in heaven for the person who invented this.
Adaptive Cruise Control
I love speed. Sadly, the law does not and my yearning to put the pedal the metal must be tempered by cruise control. It’s the first thing I look for in any vehicle I drive but I have to say that Ford is away ahead of the competition with it’s Adaptive Cruise Control. Vehicle speed sets a gap between you and the vehicle in front of you in the same lane.
Hands-Free Liftgate
Picture this; you’re coming out of the grocery store with your hands-full and your kids tugging on your coat. You get to the car and where are your damn keys? Well if you’re like me you don’t have a flippin’ clue so you put the bags down and spend five minutes rifling through your bag to find it. With Ford’s intelligent access transmitter you no longer need to stress about that. Simply move your foot under the back of the vehicle and your car will open. Toss the bags in the back, get the kids buckled up and you’re on your way; even if you don’t have your hand on the key. As long as the Intelligent Access Transmitter is with you, there’s no need to stress. Abracadabra for the modern world.
Power, Power, Power
I’m not talking speed (although the Ford Edge Sport has great pick-up) but rather the kind that fuels our modern lives. I counted four 12V power outlets, a 100-Volt power outlet, 2 USB ports, an auxiliary port and an SD card port. Seriously, I could move my office into this car.
Sync
It’s really just everything you need at your fingertips. Connect your phone for safe, hands-free interaction. Voice activated navigation allows you to find your destination easier. Sirius XM is the bomb but you bring in your own music and play over Bluetooth, line in, USB or Line In. Finally, why someone can not do this with my bed is beyond me but SYNC climate control allows my husband to bask in a warmth while I seriously chill. The Ford Edge Sport might save marriages people.

Active cruise control (option 51D) is still unavailable now, late Sep 2015. I bet it MIGHT be available for 2016 MY.
I suppose you haven’t really seen 2015 Ford Edge Sport in flesh.

I would very much like to be a passenger in this car on a long Fall drive.
Oh, to be a passenger! Just once!
I think I would enjoy a moonroof.

Well I drove it for five days so yes, in the flesh. And it most definitely had adaptive cruise control.

Hi, the moonroof was one of my most favourite features.
