I am currently out cruising in the middle of the Caribbean on assignment for ChildMode. I have to admit, it’s getting pretty easy to deny the inevitable. After all, it’s a piece of cake to deny that winter is coming when you’re drinking Margaritas and lounging in your swimsuit in November.
Still, I know I’m only fooling myself.
For most of my life I’ve been a winter escaper rather than a winter embracer, but last year my husband got the girls up on skis and guess what? I am now the lone wolf in the house.
Thankfully, in September I had the privilege of meeting some of the best and brightest in the ski industry at the TMS Family Travel Conference in Niagara. Listening to these women talk about their love of “powder” and the beauty of the areas they ski in and how it binds their families together was what finally convinced me to change my ways.
That’s right I’m getting up on skis at 44. Good grief, I don’t even know who I am anymore. Someone talk me off the ski lift for pity’s sake!
My first three priorities are this: figuring out what piece of equipment to put on first, how to look stylish in a helmet and how to make it down a hill with no broken bones. Once I’ve got that figured out, I’m really looking forward to visiting the girls I met at TMS at one of the incredible ski resorts they spoke so highly of.
While in Niagara I had the opportunity to interview Alex from Ski.com and if you’d rather find powder on the hills than on the beach, then take a minute to check this out. Remember, this face was made for blogging, not vlogging, keep the heckling to minimum please.
So, tell me. Are you a skiier? If not, what’s holding you back? Do you think you might be over the proverbial ski hill like I think I am?

I skied around 3000 years ago. I’m kind of afraid to ski now. Plus, it’s cold. I’ll hold your margaritas while you’re loving the powder.

Awesome job!

I was a skier when I was a teen and then again when my kids learned to snowboard. They were so young I was afraid of them on the chairlift by themselves. LOL Turns out one of them is the terrain park only rails and jumps kid. The chair lift seems so safe now. 🙂 Never to old to learn to ski, but I am not sure about snowboarding. It is very different and I may be too old for that!

You are never too old to learn to ski. I’m getting back in the swing of things this year with the girls taking their first lessons at vorlage in January. So excited!!

I learned to ski back in the day of the dreaded rope tow. Burned through many pairs of mitts lemme tell ya. Getting back into (the skiing, not the mitt burning) this year with the kids!
