I love Christmas lights. They always make me feel so festive. This year, my husband turned our girls playhouse in the backyard into a small homage to Clark W. Griswold. It’s super tacky and yet we can’t help but smile when the sun goes down and it lights up our backyard. Of course, we’re not the only lovers of Christmas lights and that’s why December is such a great time to get out and see the night all lit up.
In our hometown of Ottawa, Parliament Hill will be lit up starting December 5th this year. This is just another incredible event in Ottawa that gets me gushing with hometown pride every single time. To get a small idea of how beautiful it is, take a look at this video from Ottawa Tourism.
We’re also looking forward to heading back to Upper Canada Village for their Alight at Night display of over one million Christmas lights. After our incredible experience at Pumpkinferno in October we can barely wait to see what they do with Christmas lights.
Of course, if you’re heading to Disney for Christmas, you simply can’t miss The Osbourne Spectacle of Lights. One of the most breathtaking displays of Christmas lights you’ll ever see it also comes with a pretty heartwarming story of father/daughter love. Plus, I’ll admit it, I’m kind of fond of the fake snow.
For me, a dream is to be in New York City when they light up Rockefeller Center. I imagine it’s gasp worthy. Although I will admit that after checking out my friend Eileen’s list of 58 Great Spots to See Holiday Lights, I’ve added a few more to my growing to-do list. So many lights, so little time!
Of course, don’t forget about all the hard work your neighbours’ put into the holidays as well. Sometimes just a drive around your own neighbourhood is all you need! For a fun family tradition, try the Mini-Van Express.
